The Fault in Our Stars, would be an excellent choice of a book to read for our independent reading assignment for the third marking period because it sounds not only interesting, but The Fault in Our Stars, sounds intriguing as well. This book can teach us lessons about like and treasuring every moment, to being relatable to the multiple aspects of the book, like romance and tragedy. The Fault in Our Stars is also one of those books, aimed for teenagers, that will grab a person in and a person will want to continue. The Fault in Our Stars is a superb choice for the independent reading assignment for the third marking period. The Fault in Our Stars can teach you to treasure life because you never know when it is going to end. For example, the main character, Hazel has Cancer; despite her tumor-shrinking miracle that bought her more time, she is basically dying. Reading this book, as somebody about the same age as the main character, will more than likely make one think about what if they were in Hazel and had Cancer. A book like this makes people realize how lucky they are. The Fault in Our Stars is relatable to romance and tragedy of the book. In this book, Hazel falls in love in a cancer support group when she least expects it. Teenagers are always falling in love when least expecting it. In relation to the aspect of tragedy, everybody, sadly, knows someone that has died and, although a sad minority, plenty of people know people that have died of cancer. The Fault in Our Stars, is a relatable book, that will grab a person in, and make people want to continue to the end. The Fault in Our Stars is a terrific book choice for the third marking period independent reading assignment. This book is not only interesting, but also seems to be very intriguing. We would definitely want to read this book as our independent reading assignment.
Thank you,
Morgan Siegel, Kirsten Kral, and Noel Vermiglio
Counter-Argument: This book may be based on a depressing topic. But it is something a lot of people can relate to because it is about a girl that joined a cancer group. Cancer is a known thing in our country, so anyone who knows someone that may have cancer can relate to it. It could show us how people with cancer really feel and help us to understand them better.
